The 1860 Army, a .44 caliber cap and ball revolver, combined ease of handling with power and streamlined looks. Out of the more than 200,000 '60 Army models produced from 1860-1873, over 73,300 civilian versions of this popular revolver were produced. A favorite with many westerners, the '60 model was known to have been used by the notorious James-Younger gang, John Wesley Hardin, Mormon "Avenging Angel" Porter Rockwell, Wells Fargo detective James Hume, the Texas Rangers and Sam Bass, to name a few. Despite his reputation with the 1851 Navy model, there is a circa 1864 photo of "Wild Bill" Hickok packing a pair of 1860 Army revolvers in his holsters--butt forward!
